Why care?

At the BC Wildlife Park, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Our Vision, Mission, and Philosophy all revolve around sustainability of natural ecosystems, wildlife species, natural resources, and the environment; alongside social and economic resources. We only have one planet, and it is the responsibility of everyone to be protect it, and be stewards of the environment.

GreenStep Solutions

 GreenStep Solutions

In 2020 the BCWP created a sustainability action plan and underwent a waste audit with GreenStep solutions. We pride ourselves on continuing to take ownership of the environmental impact the Park has. By continuing to make immediate, positive changes that improve environmental stewardship and reduce our carbon footprint. The BCWP is honoured to be at the forefront of environmental stewardship, and the recipient of the 2020 Eco Efficiency Excellence Award. We look forward to continuing to make strides in reducing our carbon footprint by educating ourselves and implementing innovative ways to becoming more sustainable.

What are we doing?

What are we doing?

  • All light bulbs within the Discovery Centre were changed to LED.
  • Separate indoor and outdoor bins for waste, recycling, and refundables were purchased and clearly labelled.
  • Upgrades were made to our cooling systems; updating 3 air conditioning units, further maximizing internal efficiency.
  • 3 water refill stations were installed, and single use water bottles are no longer sold!
  • We've removed single use paper maps, and have installed 10 permanent maps throughout the Park.
  • All of our to go cups, utensils, and food containers are all corn based and biodegradable.
  • We compost on-site, and use in our gardens throughout the Park.
