Why a Playground?

Why do we need a new playground?

Everyone deserves a safe place to come together and be connected to wildlife and wild spaces; which is exactly what the BC Wildlife Park strives to do.

We know that children need opportunities for risky, yet safe, outdoor play & that play is a fundamental human right of all children - integral to cognitive, physical & social development & emotional well being.

Much loved and well used, the playground at the BC Wildlife Park is in need of a major upgrade in order to bring it up to current standards, and make it inclusive and accessible for children of all ages and abilities.

This summer, we are launching a major fundraising effort to help fund these upgrades, and we'd love for you to be a part of it.

Playground Updates

Playground Updates

The plan is to keep and update some of the park's most iconic imaginative and wildlife inspired elements, including the eagle's nest and badger burrows; while adding new safety measures along with accessible and interactive components, all designed to encourage fun, safe and inclusive play for everyone.

This section will be updated with news and information as it becomes available - stay tuned for updates!

Contest

It's contest Time!

We invite BC children of all ages to answer the question:

What does outdoor play mean to me?

Answers to the question can come in the form of a letter, a piece of art, video, photo, poem, story, or quote. Be creative!

The BC Wildlife Park will select one winning entry and one runner up from the entries it receives overall. The winning entry will be awarded complimentary admission to the BCWP for a year, for themselves and their family*, and one private animal encounter valued at $350. The runner up will receive complimentary admission to the BCWP for a day for themselves and their family, valued at $110.

There are so many other projects listed on your master plan... what made you prioritize building a new playground first?

It's true, each item listed in the master plan is a priority. We chose to begin with the playground because just as the welfare of our animals is our top priority, we also need to prioritize the health and safety of the families who visit and support the Park, and the animals in it. Our iconic playground has been a much loved feature for many years, and is starting to show its age. It needs to be brought up to current safety standards which includes making it interesting and accessible for children of all ages and abilities. While we are currently fundraising for this initiative, we are still focused on the other important initiatives in the plan. Please take a look at the master plan HERE , and consider supporting any of the worthy items listed HERE.
